On several occasions over the past two years while researching my Renwick ancestry (originally from Southdean parish, Roxburghshire), I have uncovered useful information when I investigated records from areas in North America that seem to have attracted 'clumps' of Roxburghshire and/or Borders folk who settled 'en bloc' in these locales.
So far, I have identified the following as apparent areas of preferred Roxburghshire/Borders settlement in the 19th century North American emigration from Scotland: 1) Dumfries township, Ontario; 2) St. Lawrence county, New York state; 3) Ontario county, New York state; and 4) Ionia county, Michigan.
I was wondering if other Roxburghshire Board readers had identified other similar areas of concentrated settlement, either in North America or elsewhere in the Scottish 'diaspora'. If so, I would be interested in knowing about them as potential places to search out missing relatives. Any suggestions??
