in resonse to brendan clarke's query about mcswan's in scotland, i have recently gotten more information about my MCSWANS. they came from Husabost, Parish of Duirinish, Uig, Isle of skye. this would be my g,g grandfather Malcolm MCSWAN lived there his whole life from abt. 1800 until 1883, gave his occupation on various census as tenant, fisherman and crofter. married Marion MCDERMID who died 29 june 1877 aged 70. they had 6 children Angus, Margaret, John (my great grandfather) Mary, Swain and Christian. there name appears as both MCSWAN and MCSWAIN in various documents. I have had e-mail correspondence from someone living now in the area. she says there are still MCSWANS there, so Brendan, skye might be the place to start. good hunting, Patricia Dick
