Just in case there is any confusion from the message string, Castle Sween is in Knapdale, on the Argyll mainland, not in Skye. It is supposed to be the oldest stone built castle in Scotland. the connection is with the McSweens but by the 15th century it was in the keeping of first the McNeills of Gigha and finally, through marriage, of Alexander Macmillan, whose high cross is nearby at Kilmory Knap. Like everything on that coast it was ravaged as part of the ousting of the Mcdonald Lords of the Isles 1479-93 and the lands fell into Campbell hands.
