I need help finding a John McHarrie. I have his New Zealand death certificate which lists his father as John McHarrie, dye works proprietor, and his mother as Jean Rodey. His place of birth is Scotland and his DOB is approx 1842. Another website lists his DOB as 6 Jan 1842 and his birth place as Straner, Wigtownshire, Scotland. There is a possible match in the 1851 Scotland census with a John McHarrie aged 11 living with a John McHarrie snr (born approx 1813). No mother listed. I've search The Banns and Marriage records on ScotlandsPeople and there is no Jean Rodey marrying a John McHarrie. There is a Euphemia Roddie marrying a John McHarrie in 1841 which could be a match. The Wigtownshire Pages transcript of the StoneyKirk death entries have a John and Jean McHarrie dying in 1853 aged 77 and 66 respectively but this John would have been born approx 1776 so is not the same John Snr on the 1851 census. I'm stuck. Any suggestions of where to look next would be gratefully received.
