William George Evans was baptised on 6 Apr 1870 at the parish church of St. Tyfaelog in Gelligaer, Glamorgan, Wales. The son of John (collier) & Elizabeth, of King Street, Pontlottyn.

The parents' names match up with the names on George "Honey Boy" Evans' headstone at Riverview Cemetery, Streator, LaSalle County, Illinois, USA

1871 Wales census: John (25, coalminer) & Elizabeth and son, William G., are living at Heol Evan Wynn in the hamlet of Brithdir in Pontlotyn, Gelligaer.

By 1880 they had emigrated to the USA:

John Evans (45, miner) & Elizabeth (30, father from Ireland) and sons George (11); Evan (9, Wales); Charlie (3, USA)
