Hullo Gareth,

David Tennant was born in Alloway, Ayrshire, on the 2nd May 1762, parents John Tennant and Margaret McClure. He was a Capt in the RN and fought against the French, he was in the area of Baltimore, US during the War of Independence. A contact has records which she is sending, of this. He married Anne Green on the 3rd July 1823 in Swansea (LDS site). He died on the 30th August 1839 at Pant, Gwydir, Swansea. Anne is in the 1841 & 1851 Wales Censuses, but place of birth is not known, but in the 1851 Census she was 63, so born about 1788. She died in the March Quarter 1860 in Swansea.

I think Anne was his second wife-in his will he left money to his daughter Mary Mowbray, a widow. It is very unlikely that Mary could have been Anne's daughter. So far have been unable to find any record of Mary Tennant/Mowbray. My contact in the US thinks David had a son in the US in 1792, so another wife. She also thinks Anne was born in the US.

That is why I was hoping parish records of the marriage might give her parents.

Grateful for any help,
Marjorie
