I am trying to locate my great grandparents families in England - Henry & Annie (James) Williams & children immigrated, departure Liverpool, to Ameria by way of Canada abt 1908-1909. Henry first, wife and children later.
Passenger List for Annie and Children says nation or country of birth is England. I know for a fact that at least one of the children was born in 1904 on 60 Richard Street, Eglwysilan, Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales.
(I hope that's in the right order.)
Later Border Crossing Records, (Canada to US) which are extremely difficult to read, says they're from Canada, so no help there. Nearest relative is father Thomas James in Grangetown, England (someone else read as Georgetown). There seems to be several Grangetowns
1909 Naturalizatoin records give Henry's birth as Devon, Plymouth, England and the children in England
1910 Census say my grandmother was born England.
Annie died in a fire 1913, on the death certificate date and place of birth are left blank, her father is listed as James Pritchard. I don't know who supplied this information, since Henry had been seriously injured in the fire, was hospitalized and then disappeared. The children were split up and adopted by seperate families, my grandmother was 7.
1920 & 1930 my grandmother says she was born in Wales.
I can't figure out where or when Henry and Annie married, except the eldest child was born in 1902.
Without even trying I found six families in Devon, Plymouth, England in the 1881 census, so there are probably more.
Was it common to lump all together and just say you came from England, rather than Wales? Does anybody have any ideas to help me sift through the mulititude of James and Williams families?
Help???
