Mike,
I am wondering how do I find out more about BMD files. I was looking for a John Thomas FORD b. 24 Nov 1868 in Manchester, Lancashire, England. I found a John Thomas FORD listed in the Apr-May-Jun 1868 BMD 8d/253 and I found a John FORD in the Oct-Nov-Dec 1868 BMD 8d/196. Last one should be right one but that is as far as I can go. It tells me that the file should have his mother's maiden name listed but it doesn't. How do I get to files 8d/253 and 196???? I see that you can buy credits and then pay a credit each time you use it to search. I am in the US and of course credits cost pounds. Is there a place to go to look at this BMD file? John Thomas FORD came across to Canada maybe Halifax, Nova Scotia. and then into Canada and on into the US in about 1904 and settled in Henderson Co., IL., US. which is near the IA. border to the west and just above the MO border to the south. It is poss that he had a twin brother or brother with him and the brother died at sea. I found a ship the Sarmatian and also Dominion. BMD registers co., show a John FORD death at sea 1883 BT15904B.
Whatever these numbers and letters mean????
