My grandmother, Elizabeth Gertude Lewis was born at Buckholt, MON in Dec 1877 [I have her birth certificate]. I'd like to find out where she was christened - it was not Whitchurch HEF where her siblings were christened before and after her. I have her record in the 1881 census. I'd also like to know what the 1871 census tells of her parents, William and Louisa Lewis [nee Morris, of Buckholt] and any other children - perhaps at Whitchurch or Llanrothal HEF or at Buckholt/Dixton MON. This is tangled, so any help welcomed!

I have hit a wall in my research with Matthew Vaughn, Charles' brother( birthplace unknown) so I am looking for anything and everything on the family of James and Catherine. I know that James and Catherine emigrated to the US after the birth of Charles. When is unknown.

How, Howe, Howse, Howes all cousins?

Hi Folks, in my genealogical search of my Thomas Howes 1580 - I have found mis-spelling by town and court clerks - many times in same document! Now, listen up!

I am Al Howes V.P. of the Howes Family Association and with 20th Gen. "Cuz" Paul Howes of Norfolk, England (found through DNA) have been working together over the past few months to plan a DNA project. The aims of the project are:

1 - to establish the English roots of Thomas Howes, who emigrated to America in 1637

2 - to help individual Howes, Howse,Howe,How family members break through brick walls in their research

3 - to bring together Howes families from around the world, and add to the sum of knowledge about our family

4 - to examine whether there are common roots between Howes, Howse and Howe families

We have just obtained a 50% discount voucher for DNA testing kits from a commercial service. Yes, that's half-off, but the vouchers are valid only until July 30, 2008. So you will need to make a quick decision to benefit from this special offer.

A few words about DNA testing: it's a simple swab, which you rub around your mouth for a few moments and then mail back. The supplier then sends you an email some weeks later with the URL to your test results. Those results

will be available to my English cousin Paul, and myself, as administrators of the site, but you will not have to disclose your identity to us. Once you have your own DNA test results, you can do your own searches on the suppliers and other sites to find matches. I can provide anyone interested with a lot more information on the usefulness of testing if desired.

If you are interested in using the discount voucher, please write to me off-list. I will send you more background on the project, DNA testing and the voucher ID. This is all volunteer, no money for us - only the testing company.

Many thanks in advance - Good Luck and Good Hunting
'Cuz' Al Howes, Co-Administrator Howes DNA Project
Is is possible to be born in one county of Wales, but the birth is registered in another county?
I'm trying to find out if my branch of the Lovell family is connected to gypsies.
My great grandmother Lily used to say "We all look like gypsies..." and now I discover that Lovell was a name taken by Romanys!
Lily was the daughter of Allan Lovell, co-founder of Lovell's Confectionery in Pontypool/Newport, and I have heard that someone thinks that there's a connection - but as yet know no more.
I've been to other websites, but again, no joy in discovering the truth.
Does anyone out there know if there's a connection to the Lovell gypsies? My tree goes back to the 1700s on the Lovell line, so if you need any more names, I may have them...

Thanks

Mel

finding towns near Blackwood

My g-g-grandmother (Alice Williams) was born in 1843 in Ceincoed Mynyddyslwyn.

Her parents (Henry Williams and Margaret Williams) were married in 1842. The marriage was solemnized in Beulah, parish of Mynyddyslwyn, was performed in the Baptist Chapel. Henry's residence was Penderry, parish of Mynyddyslwyn. Margaret's residence was Crumlin, Mynyddyslwyn.

I would like to know where the Chapel and other towns are. I have found Blackwood and Crumlin on a map. I have not been able to find Penderry (although there was a area Pen -deri on one map) or Ceincoed (if that is a town and not a Welsh word for something else).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mary WILLIAMS (b 1867) & John VENN (b 1869), Mon.

Hello
I have just discovered a connection to the VENN family in Monmouthshire while researching my family history. I wondered if anyone has any information.

Mary WILLIAMS (b 13/12/1867) married John VENN (born c. 1869) on 26/5/1890 in Mamhilad, Pontypool.

I know very little about John VENN except that his father was also John VENN. John VENN and Mary WILLIAMS had a son John VENN (born c 1895).

Mary is the daughter of Jehoida WILLIAMS (b. 11/2/1844) and Margaret ELTON (b. 18/6/1848). Mary's father, Jehoida, died in 1869 when Mary was 2 years old. Mary's mother, Margaret, married a second time to John PULMAN (b. c1851) who brought up Mary and her brother, also called Jehoida (b 17/5/1869), along with their later children (Williams, James, Rachel PULMAN). Mary's brother, Jehoida WILLIAMS, emigrated with Elizabeth KELLY, his wife, and children to New Zealand in 1919. This Jehoida was my gr grandfather.

I would be very keen to trace descendents of Mary WILLIAMS and John VENN.

Cheers
Sarah Williams
Auckland, New Zealand
He married Debhora Dando on the 17th of December 1883 in Bedwellty. On Thomas's marriage certificate it states his fathers name was William Williams but doesn't list mothers name. I have traced the Dando's back quite far but have had no luck with the Williams. Can someone tell me how to get Thomas's birth certificate I would love to have it. If anyone can help me that be great. Thanks for any help Matt

His wife was Louisa, and their children were Owen (or Glyndwr), Idrisyn, Ceitho, Ceinwen and Brychan. I have information about Idrisyn, who was my great-grandfather, but can find nothing on any of his siblings or parents previous to the 1891 census.
John Owen Jones gives his place of birth as Neath, and would have been born c.1863. Louisa (maiden name unknown) was born c.1865 in Abercarn.
Any help at all would be much appreciated.

I am eager to learn more about this couple. Where in Rhymney would they have been buried? Has anyone got the 1991 cencus they could look this couple up, they are not on the 1901 cencus. Many thanks.

Marraige of David John Williams & Elizabeth King

Hi,

Desperately need help. Looking for details of marriage for David John Williams & Elizabeth King. I believe they were probably married in the early 1920's, as they had 2 sons then my nana in 1927. My nana was born in Tradega & I presume that her two older brothers (David & Harry) were also. David John Williams was also from Wales. Elizabeth King was born in South Shields.

I have searched the indexes and come accross a few Williams/King marriages, but when cross referenced, they don't match. Perhaps I've missed them or they married much earlier than I anticipated.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many, many thanks, Dianna.

I'm researching a James and a Coslett family that lived in and around Monmouthshire from 1800 - 1920.

The main names of interest are David James and Rachel Coslett who married in 1880 in Pontypool. They had 5 children; Garfield, Gilbert, Edwin, Lilian and someone with the initials 'EJ'. Garfield moved to Australia in about 1910, at around age 21 and had 2 sons named David and Alfred with a woman named Mary Cumming Wilson.

If anyone has any information relating to these people, or relatives of them please reply.

Thanks

BAKER - BLAENAVON, MONMOUTHSHIRE AND YATE, GLOUCESTERSHIRE

I am looking for the births of Thomas, Esther and William Baker, children of William Baker and Ann (surname unknown), born in Blaenavon between c1855-c1860. I have them in the census but would like to order their birth certificates. The family were from Yate, Gloucester and returned there before 1868 when a further three children were born. Their first child, Mary Ann, was also born in Yate c1850.

I would also be interested to know if any other children were born to William and Ann as a five year gap between children was quite a long time in those days. We then have a further gap between children after the birth of their fourth child in Blaenavon (c1860) and their fifth child born in Yate (c1868).

Has anyone any ideas why William and Ann would have moved to Blaenavon and then returned to Gloucester?

I'm sure I have some gaps to fill in here and any help would be appreciated.

They were both born in Tredegar, Monmouthshire (as they stated in the 1881 Census). My family history states that Margaret was one of triplet sisters, born June, 1847. I cannot find any info that verifies this. Supposedly, James Griffiths was married to one of Margarets trip sisters before he married her. I would greatly appreciate any assistance!
I work at Tredegar House in Newport, and am currently attempting to compile a history of the Morgans of Tredegar. The Morgan family's stamp has been firmly left on the history of Monmouthshire, Breconshire and Glamorgan; it seems you can't walk down certain streets without bumping into foundation stones laid by Viscount Tredegar, or have a quiet sit down in a park that was NOT given to a town or village by either Sir Charles Morgan or one of the six Lords Tredegar!
My aim is to compile as much biographical information as possible on this ever intriguing dynasty, in the hope of being able to tell their story.
If anyone has any information on the Morgan family (letters, documents, memories etc) I would be most grateful if they could get in touch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Paul Busby

Leslie Burgess Bellamy

I'm looking for information on the family (sibs & parents) of Leslie Burgess Bellamy, b. 12 Sep 1908 in Wales; d. Jan 1962 in Michigan (probably Detroit). He immigrated to Canada, then to the US in 1929. He married Gwyneth Elizabeth Jones in 1935.

According to family lore, there may have been 12 children, 3 of which might have died when kids. Some of the siblings names might have been: Flossie or Floss, Helen, Lena, Alice, Lucy. Leslie was probably the youngest. The next youngest boy was 19 years older than Leslie. Leslie's dad died when he was about 44 and his grandma remarried a man named Jones, who also died when he was 44.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for more information on my great grandfather William Henry Probyn born in Middlesex London. Came to Australia and married in 1876 in Victoria, Australia. (I have seen a few posts that may have some connection but they were posted 5 or more years ago). I have his parents as Thomas Probyn and Charlotte Pitman/Pillman - no other info. on them. I would really appreciate some help in obtaining more info on his life in England, his parents, siblings and when he came to Australia. It could be between 1851 and 1861 as I think I have him on the 1851 census but not the 1861.
Can anyone help? Thanks Rhonda

My Morgan family came to the Anthracite Coal region of Pennsylvania, USA prior to the 1860's. There names were Thomas and Mary Webster Morgan and David and Catherine Morgan. Much of their family history is contained in a little book marked J. Jones, Tea Dealer, Tredegar that was created prior to 1850.

I'd be interested in hearing from anybody researching Morgan lines from Tredegar. We visited Tredgar twice.
My great-grandfather, Lewis Silcox was also born near Nanty-Glo prior to 1850, the son of a James and Mary Tucker Silcox. A brother, Jonah, was killed in a mine blast at Blana in 1847.

Can someone tell me how Kemey is pronounced in Wales? Kem or Keem? Or? I'm looking for an ancestor who apparently came with Rev. Richard Blynman of Chepstow, Monmouthshire in 1638 or 1640. He ended up here as Keeney, but went through many spellings (still does). Most Keeneys now are Irish, but many-times-greatgrandpa apparently was not.
I find Kemey's Commander and Kemey's Manor an interesting possiblity.
