There is a slave named Mingo listed on the estate inventory for James Knowles of Long Island, dated July 7, 1806. Would Bethia perhaps have gotten that surname from the slave's given name? It seems too unusual to have any other explanation.

There are no other details about Mingo on the inventory, other than a value of 120, which is on the higher end of the inventory (of 50 slaves).
