I have a Francisco Fiffe y Hartmann in my family tree that was born in Hamburg, Germany circa 1820. He married in Cuba and had a baby girl, Gumersinda Fiffe Lazo in 1850.

There was a Royal Decree of Graces of 1815, issued by Spain, which encouraged Europeans (including Germans) to move to Cuba and Puerto Rico by offering them free land after having lived there 5 years.

Carmen Paz Dorta-Duque
