For some info on Marie Talliefer:
http://afrigeneas.com/forum-fpoc/index.cgi?read=1587
and nearby postings.

According to Conrad A. Auzenne’s book, Auzenne, Donato, Frilot, Lemelle, Meullion: A Genealogical Study of Five Families and other Allied Families of Southern Louisiana:

Marie Jeanne Taillefert was a Mulatresse Libre or an Indian. She died at 90 at her Prairie Laurent Plantation en la paroisse de St. Landry. Her grave can be found at the St. Landry Roman Catholic Cemetery in Opelousas. Her succession records are dated 16 Nov. 1836 (Opel. Ct. Hse. Succ. #897). It is believed that she was the daughter of one of the De Taillefert brothers, both French officer’s (Lieutenant) in Louisiana in the early 1740’s. One brother may have been commandant for a while at Fort Tombecbe on the Tombigbee River, another satellite of Fort Conde de la Mobile. He was made Lieutenant-en-peid in 1741 and later discharged for misconduct and returned to France in 1747. (Only one brother has been identified by name, Jean Francois De Taillefert). According to the 1820 Census, Marie Jeanne Taillefer owned 6 negro slaves. On 15 June 1779 (LSAR: Opel. 1779-57), she married George Boulard of Boston, a mulaire libre. No know issue from this marriage.

Having the surname of Bello, O always thought its origin was Italian but I found the following info:
Surname: Bello
This name, with variant spelling Ballach, is of Scottish locational origin from Balloch in Bonhill parish, Dumbartonshire. The name is believed to derive from the Gaelic "ballach", meaning speckled or spotted, probably with reference to the varied colours of the landscape in the area. The surname first appears on record in the latter part of the 15th Century, (see below). One, Robert Ballock, a messenger in Edinburgh, was noted in the register of marriages for that city in 1598. In the 16th Century, "Rentale Dunkeldense" Bello, Belloch and Bellocht appear as variants of the name. A William Bulloche in Muirhead of Touchgorme, parish of St. Ninians, was noted in "the Commissariot Record of Stirling" in 1676. William Ballach, an infant, was christened in Strichen, Aberdeenshire on November 4th 1721, and on December 3rd 1789, Alexander Balloch and Ann Leslie were married in Drumblade, Aberdeenshire. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Donald Ballock, witness, which was dated 1479, in the "Register of the Great Seal of Scotland", during the reign of King James 111, of Scotland, 1460 - 1488. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

Have it understood from my uncle Luis Adrian Bello Martinez Saez (born about 1919) that all the Bello's in the Santa Clara, Mantanza & Placestas area were related. My great great grandmother Catalina had seven children before her husband (a Bello) was killed by a bomb during the First Cuban Revolution from Spain. She later remarried and had three or four more children

I am interested in your Saez line. My GGG Grandfather was Geronimo Saez. He died 9 Dec 1837 in Yauco, Puerto Rico. His death record states that he was 112 years old at the time of death. That would make his year of birth appx. 1725. It also states that he was from "la isla de la Havana. Which I believe is Cuba. Rumor has it that he or his family came to Cuba from Spain. Don't have any proof of this. Let me know if you know of a Geronimo from Cuba.
Thanks
