Beverhoudt family

Anyone working with the van Beverhoudt's ?
Mine are at St John and St Tomas, US Virgin Islands in the 1700s. At that time the islands were a Danish Colony.

Pieter van Beverhoudt. (aorund 1715 - 1788) had cotton plantations on St John.

His probable father
Jannis van Beverhoudt (around 1680 - 1733 - ?) had a plantation on St Thomas in 1733. He is said to have come from Tortola, where the Dutch were thrown out by the English.

The family has a legend that they stem from Beverwijk, Nord Holland, The Netherlands.

Best regards
Steen Thomsen
København, Danmark
http://www.danbbs.dk/~stst/
I am currently researching a George Graham, born in the West Indies in 1796. He moved to Stoke Damerel, Devon, England where he later worked in the Devonport dockyard as a sailmaker. I believe his father was English and was a sailor of some description, but have no information about him at all.

I hope someone can help me with this mystery.

George Daniels - British Subject West Indies

Hi, please can anybody help me trace the history of George Daniels a British Subject born in the West Indies abt 1835?
He can first be found in Liverpool England in 1851, as a visitor stated age 18, profession - slater. He married in 1853 in Sutton St Helens Lancashire to Emma Alcock. Sadly he never gave his fathers name on his marriage certificate, or his age. He remained in Sutton England until his death in 1881. I don't know where next to turn to find out more about him, as so little detail was given. If you have any info that may be of use, any suggestions, or have the Daniels surname in your tree with West Indian connections, please get in contact, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you.

Ferrall/Farrell/O'Ferrall, Estate Annaly, St. Croix West Indies

Ferrall/Farrell/O'Ferrall, Estate Annaly, St. Croix

Chamberlain Roger Fergus O'Ferrall (1776-1855) is shown as owner of estate Annaly in the 1850 St. Croix census, He is probably same Roger shown 1840 census. This Roger married Sophie Krempien (1781-1829) probably in Copenhagen. I am trying to identify parents of this Roger.

An earlier Roger Ferrall married Elizabeth Fergus - unknown dates and places but probably late 1600's in the West Indies. This Roger and Elizabeth had a daughter, also Elizabeth (1703-1774), who married Pieter Markoe (1702-1747). Elizabeth and Pieter (or sons) owned several plantations on St. Croix as early as the 1730's. They included Spanishtown, Clifton Hill, Barren Spot and others.

Pieter Markoe died 1747 and the widow then married Mathias Ferrall. He is not identified but I suspect he was kin or descendant of Roger Ferrall and Elizabeth Fergus. No information that Mathias and Elizabeth had children.

Roger and Sophie Ferrall had children and grandchildren who married into the Danish Noble families of Castonier, Scavenius, Blucher of Altona and others. Roger's sister, Bridget, married Edward Cary of Devonshire, England, but had no children.

Possible kin of Sophie Krempien is Catharine Maria Krempien who married Gen. John Hodgson (1757-1846), one time governor of Bermuda and Curacao.

Any info re West Indian Ferrals (etc) appreciated.

Surnames; Ferrall/Farrell/O'Ferrall, Fergus, Krempien, Markoe, Scavenius, Castonier, Blucher-Altona, Cary, Hodgson

Post: St. Croix, Carribean, Farrell

Ship left for a place called "Polu Run" no island mentioned. The ship was from the British East India Company, and left UK May of 1659, it was named the Marmaduke I believe. It was instead sent to St. Helena's. I can't be certain this was the area where it was heading but can not find the name Polu Run doing a web search. Could be other places, still looking. I do know the Capt was John Dutton and he also had his wife with him, a Dutch lady according to some information I found (yet to be followed up about the wife).

Cornishman in the West Indies

My GGG grandfather (John Rowe b. 1805 Ruan Lanihorne, Cornwall) spent two years in the West Indies during the late 1830s (most likely 1838 & 1839), before returning to Cornwall for two weeks to get his family and move permanently to Australia. I am trying to find out what he would have been doing in the West Indies and why. He was a miner by trade.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? I was thinking whether any Cornish newspapers had advertisements at the time asking for men to go to the West Indies for specific reasons. Any other ideas greatly appreciated.

Dioue. Pub. New York Public Library and Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. 2004.
It has very approachable text, maps, diagrams, and photos, with a whole chapter on Caribbean migrations.
There is also an extensive bibliography.
While there are some individuals named, this is mostly in the category of backround reading.

Rumour has it that we came from Brittany in france to Martinique and on to Dominica.
I have only been able to get back as far as 1847 so far. But am having research done by the catholic church here with their older records . I have traced as far back (so far) as 1847 so far.

Archibald Campbell, Scotland to Demerara

This is a bit of a long shot but I am looking for an Archibald Campbell, born Strone, Kilfinan parish, Cowal, Argyll, Scotland, on 24 September 1826. He is supposed to have died in Demerara while on his way to live in New Zealand. As he did not appear in the Rothesay (where the family then lived) census of 1841, it is assumed that he had left home at that stage and was employed in shipping. We do not know when he died and the family story about Archibald is that he died of "black water fever" in Demerara en route to New Zealand. I would appreciate any help in finding out what happened to Archibald. An assumption about the possible year/s of death would be circa 1841 to 1855.

My ancestor, Jacob CHRISTIAN was born in 1833 or 1834. He immigrated to England (date unknown) and lived there with his English wife, Octavia CAULFIELD. On the 1861 Liverpool census it is recorded that Jacob's place of birth is the West Indies. Any other information I know is that his profession as recorded on his marriage certificate is that of Mariner - while on his death certificate his profession is listed as "retired timber merchant". At this point, as I don't have much to go on, any information about any Chrisitians in that time frame of 1833 would be appreciated. Thank you.
I don't believe Francis was born in the U.S.

An article in a 1775 newspaper mentions a Patrick Hagan (Captain of the frigate Rowley) sailing from St. Kitts, W.I. to Dover, England.

In the mid/late 1700s would Irish immigrants migrate to the U.S. through the West Indies as did so many English immigrants? If so, what islands would have ports they would pass through?

Dear Friends, Greetings from Jennifer in Antigua in the Caribbean. I am
interested in a "Mr. William Maynard, Gentleman, from Nevis, on the
ship Dorsetchire to St. Christopher's. Going to settle at Nevis. ,
Port of Portsmouth, 3d to 10th Mar. 1775" He sounds to be the Maynard
forefather of some Nevis Maynards. I would be interested in evidence
that he remained there, or had holdings there (estates, etc) and any
thing that takes his lineage through to the 1850's in Nevis.
