Hi Susan,

My name is Matthijs and I live in the Netherlands. At the moment I am on the island of Curacao for a family visit.

Today I have visited the "Archivo Nashonal" today (National Archives of Curacao). I found the birth certificate of your grandfather! And I made a photo of it for you (I attached it to this post).

Your grandfathers name is officially Daniel Douglas Faulkner. Born on 23 june 1902 at 19.30 hours.
His fathers name is Rupert De George Faulkner, 52 years old and captain of a ship.
His mothers name is Chrissie Haslam Sears (without an profession).
Witnesses are Peter Eskildsen 50 years bookkeeper and Arthur Burlington Smith 36 years, machinist.
The first signature on the left is of Rupert.

I also found the mariage certificate of your grandfathers parents (see the other 2 attachments to this post):

Rupert De George Faulkner (52 years, captain of a ship) and Chrissie Haslam Sears (34 years, without a proffession) married on 4 december 1901.
Rupert is born in Hantsport, New Schotland, Canada. He is widower of Lena Faulkner. He is a son of David Weir Faulkner en Hannah Beekwith, both deceased.
Chrissie is born in New York, United States of North America. She is devorced from Francis Emery Jordan. She is the daughter of Thomas Aturro Sears (merchant) and Ada Douglas (without a proffession), both living in Brooklyn, United States of North America.
Witnesses are: Peter Eskildsen 50 years bookkeeper and Arthur Burlington Smith 36 years, machinist. Both living on Curacao.

As you can calculate, Chrissie was almost 2 month pregnant when the married.

Let me know if you could find the attachments (otherwise I will send them to you by mail)

Al the best,

Matthijs
