HOLYOKE - Carmen Maria (Lopez) Alicea, 58, of Berkshire Street, died Tuesday at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. She was a 17-year sacristan at the Providence Mother House in Holyoke.
Born and schooled in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, she lived here most of her life. A communicant of Sacred Heart Church, she was a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher for 10 years.
She leaves her husband, Marcelino Alicea; two sons, Eduardo of Holyoke and Marcelino Jr. of Pawtucket, R.I.; two daughters, Rosalia Flores of Monson and Maria B. Vega of Holyoke; three brothers, Wigberto Lopez, Jose Antonio Lopez and Angel Luis Lopez, all of Puerto Rico; two sisters, Felicita Lopez Rivera and Luz Maria Lopez, both of Puerto Rico; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday morning at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home and in the church, with burial in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday afternoon and evening.
