I have found that my Dr. John Ruan was born on St. Croix in the 1771.
he and his younger brother James were sent to Trenton, NJ when the father, John Ruan, a gentleman planter, died.
The mother had also died. There is mention of older brothers who were of age and so they stayed and were planters also. I have a 13 year old girl named Elizabeth Ruan leaving for England around this time, to live, as well.
Do you know of this family?
It is just a piece of my roots I wish to uncover.
My maternal grandmother's aunts and uncles on her mothers side were all given Ruan as a middle name. We have everything back to a John Ruan aged 50 in the 1850 census.
his son, also John, married our Rebecca. the line goes from there.
it remains to be seen if our John Ruan was the only son of the Dr. Ruan to continue his line. We believe he is the son born 1798/9 to Elizabeth Gibbs and the Dr. Our John has the middle name of Gibbs. this was Dr.s first wife and the only one to give him a son that lived and may have married.
Anyhow, do you know this family or anyone researching this family?
thank you for your time. I will visit Ruan's bay the next time I make it to St. Croix. we have access to a condo there.
