We have our line from John and his wife down.
We think the senior JohnG. Ruan was born to one Dr. John Ruan, b.St. Croix June 19 1771, the 2nd son of John Ruan a gentleman planter who died 1782.
The Dr. was a prominent obstetrician in Phily.
he married 3 times. and of these marriages there were many children that died. 3 from the 3rd marriage survived childhood but did not marry. however the first marriege to one Elizabeth Gibbs of Burlington NJ(across the Delaware from Phily) gave him a son and a dau. born 1798 and 1796. The mansion the good Dr. built in Frankford town(a town just outside Phily proper at the time) stands today and is used as the GAR museum. they have a site, web.
The Dr. visited his 2 brothers(planters) on St. Croix 1821.
but returned to Phily and resumed his practice.
I have more visits to the genealogical centers here in NYC before I can tie him to my John G. Ruan the corn merchant.
I have some stuff about Ruan family members on St. Croix.
Email me directly and I will send them to you.
PS we have seen the marriege to Sumner, the rear admiral.
and have seen the Von Krause line.
also there are chancery papers for the West Indies that show the Ruans possibly not only on St. Croix but some of the other Islands as well.
PPS have you heard of Guana? off Virgin Gorda. we have access to there. also condo place to rent on St. Croix near C'sted and a place over by F'sted in the rain forest that I can stay at for free. I hope to get down there again someday when I know exactly what I want to lookup.
