Greetings! Thanks for your query...Mary Ann Heyliger Beech Ruan (b. 4-26-1845 Cane Estate, St. Croix) married Charles Leopold Woods. She was the daughter of John and Henriette (Krause)Ruan. She (known as Miss Mary to local Cruzans) and Leopold (known as Master Poldy to the local Cruzans)were deeded Hannah's Rest Plantation by Mary Beech, her Godmother, at the time of their wedding. Mary and Leopold Woods are my Great-great grandparents. They evidently died within a day or so of each other in 1916 and are buried at Hannah's Rest, although as the entry to the estate had changed, I was never able to find the estate cemetary. I would appreciate knowing what information you have on the Ruan family as my information is incomplete...especially regarding their point of origin prior to St. Croix and later in the USA. I have learned only that "Ruan", properly spelled with an accent over the "a", is an old Celtic name appearing in Spain, and along the French/Swiss border.
