Hi Mara,
(this is a copy of an email that bounced from
trushalia@msn.com)
Got your submission to the St. Croix list.
My reason for tracing Simmelkjær is that my great grand father must have been friendly with someone called A: Simmelkjær, since he is being listed as a witness to the christening of my great grand father's son, Christian Mudie Jelstrup 7 Nov 1869 in Christianssted, Sct. Croix.
I hope to find out more about Knud Lauritz Jelstrup, my ggfathers bussiness in the Danish Westindies. He married Francis Harriet Mudie 5 Jun 1867 in Saint John, Christiansted. I also want to find out about her maybe Scottish roots.
I was in contact with mrs. Birgit Simmelkjær (I think that was her name) a couple of years ago - I will have to dig out the notes from then. She is researching the danish Simmelkjær.
At the moment (november 2001) there are 55 Simmelkjær's in Denmark and there are 8 places called Simmel-something hereof 3 Simmelkær, all in Ørre parish.
If you have anything about mr, A. Simmelkjær's whereabouts in 1869, I would be pleased to receive it.
Regards,
Finn Jelstrup,
Denmark
