as far as I know there are more a dozen spellings of this name, a result of transferring the Slavic name to German.
My grandfathers name is Schatowitz.
I can't promise help but if you have an authentic document stating your grandmothers' name and place of birth I'll dry my very best to find out more. I'm interested and I believe that "roots" are important.
