Did or does your grandmother Frieda have no contact points in Freistadt?

The on-line phone directory of Austria lists several Manzenreiters in Freistadt. See for yourself at http://www.etb.at/ . You could try to write to them.

You could also write to the mayor's office at the e-mail address you find at the bottom of the town's web page at http://freistadt.riskommunal.net/system/web/default.aspx?men... . It says post@freistadt.at . In your message state clearly that you are a direct descendent of Johann and Agnes, then ask your questions. You need to stress the direct bloodline, because otherwise the privacy of data prevails.

I am looking for any information about the Manzenreiter family in upper Austria. My grandmother, Frieda Manzenreiter, was born in 1929/30 in Freistadt. Her parents were Johann and Agnes. she was raised catholic and immigrated to the US in 1948. Any help, info, or direction would be appreciated.

The "sisters" are not from Josef´s 1rst marriage. Maybe sisters from the family where she grew up.
Are you sure about the spelling of Denning?

Josef and Anna Wieser had 11 children (not 8 as I wrote):

Hermine *1.11.1879 +3.1.1880
Carolina Anna *24.3.1889 +7.4.1889
Josef *23.7.1886 +20.2.1887
Carl Borr. *2.5.1881 +10.3.1882
Josef *23.7.1882 +10.4.1883
Josef Maria *8.9.1877 +29.2.1880
Augustin *24.1.1888 +31.7.1917

Franz Josef *19.3.1880
Emerich *27.9.1883 in Zell/Ybbs

Alois *27.4.1882 oo in Waidhofen 5.11.1922 Maria Roseneder

Johann v.Nep. *31.1.1885 +16.3.1942 oo 15.6.1913 in Graz (parish Mariahilf) Johanna Rehling; oo14.8.1937 in Graz (par. The children are born at various adresses.

There are living Wurm´s in Waidhofen, but there were more than 1 line of Wurms. www.herold.at

Angela died in Linz (in the hospital?). Maybe there are written down the days of death of her parents.

Einwohner- und Standesamt
Hauptstraße 1 - 5
4041 Linz
Tel.: +43 732 7070 2521
E-Mail: esa@mag.linz.at

Oh my! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me with my family and I wasn't even aware of the first marriages of Johann or Josef. I know how important it is to have parish information when searching in Austria and would like to thank you for including that. Was this where you were able to find their information?

You have now pointed me into new directions. I have a picture of my grandmother, Angela, with other women and it just says "sisters" so I will now try to find the names of Joseph's children from his first marriage. Maybe it’s them. Also, I will try to find the names of Johann Jungreithmayr's first wife and any children he may have had with her? My knowledge of the German language and old style handwriting is limited. It may be slow but still possible. If you know of any other areas I should search, I would appreciate any suggestions.

My mother passed away two months ago. She came to the states in 1955 with my father but didn't know very much of her past as her parents didn't discuss it. We used to try to find more about her family without much success and she knew of no living relatives left in Austria. I can't tell you what your help means to me. Again, thank you so much.

I can´t localize it in the documents.

Thanks a lot!
Alana

The Hamburg ship list is attached below, he was from Neustadt, Austria and his occupation was a mason Austria of that day was much larger and included many places that are now in other countries. Checking Neustadt, there are places in present day Austria by that name as well as places that were in Austria before the end of WW I, including Poland, Czech Republic

The best placename locator is found at

http://www.jewishgen.org/communities/loctown.asp

And unless another Petronella HANISCH emigrated to Brazil... there is a ship list (also attached) for a Petronella age 33, Anna age 5, Johann age 4 and Hermine age 3/4 (9 months) arriving 1894 also from Neustadt... they arrived less than 1 year after Johann.. WW I would not begin until nearly 20 years later.....

Robert Jerin
Croatian Heritage Museum
Cleveland Ohio

Hi, Thanks for your message.
I guess she came from Wien, I found few documents in ancestry.com and I asked my grandmother informations about my great-great-grandmother. Petronella came from Austria with 4 kids, but there is no register about her husband. Now I know that they called Guilherme, Ana, Pedro and João (not sure about all the names). She was pregnant when she escaped from the first world war, so Guilherme is borned in Brazil.
I guess she had brothers or sisters. I would like to found them, or maybe to find who was her husband and what he did. Maybe he was a soldier during the First World War.
Thanks again!!

Hey, in Tarsdorf, there have been Sommerauers since 1600! Unfortunately they are listed online only till 1879!
All Sommerauers that were born later, you have to look up in the "Landesarchiv" in Linz (capital of Upperaustria). For information, i think you could write them an email...
If you have more information on your mothers parents or grandparents, i'm sure we could find their birth-/death-/marriage-information online here: http://www.matricula.findbuch.net/php/main.php?ar_id=3670

my familytree now contains over 400 members and i nearly all found them on the website above! Have a try!

greats Johanna

I am descended from HOCHREITER family from Zweibrucken area of Germany. They were itinerant weavers. Of course, they may have originated in another part of Germany, or even Austria. My 3rd great grandfather was Alexander Hochreiter, who married Elisabeth Seferin. His son, Anton,B.1812, married Marie Katherine Miller, B.1815, married Dec.25, 1835. They had 3 children, Anton, JR., Elisabeth, and Marie. I know they had relatives who remained in Germany. If any of this seems relavent, feel free to contact me.
