In 2011 I went to Erdberg, now in the Czech Republic, as well as Joslowitz, Austria, now Jarsolavice, in the Czech
Erdberg and Joslowitz are about 2 miles apart. My family
Mathiasch lived in Joslowitz but went to the Roman Catholic
Church in Erdberg. When I was there, unfortunately the Church was closed, and was told that once a month a Priest comes to give services. Went to the cemetery to look for ancestors, none. Then was told when Communist took over all the Germans were forced to leave, and the Communist torn down headstones etc., anything related to the Germans.
Erdberg and Joslowitz are beautiful, no passports needed,
have the oldest wineries in Europe. Didn't have enough time
to see all. Vienna is fabulous, went to the Archives, but had nothing on my family.. Joseph Mathiasch b. 1830 in Joslowitz, came to US April 1882...went to Linn County, Missouri...family says they had "friends" there from Joslowitz that told how great America was. Erdberg is Hradek.
