Classification: Query
Johann Georg Gasser was born and baptized from parish Laurenz Gmeiner on Dec-14th 1884 in Wolfurt. His parents Johann Michael Gasser and Agatha Boehler lived in the house “Buehel No. 3”, which was very close to the church of Wolfurt. Godfather was Johann Georg Boehler, farmer and brother of Agatha Boehler, godmother was Katharina Gasser, a farmers spouse and sister of Johann Michael Gasser. [source Parish of Wolfurt, Book of Births]

The house was owned by Agatha Boehler´s father, she grew up there. Johann Michael Gasser was born and grew up in Bildstein, a village belonging to the parish of Wolfurt and in approx. 1 hours walk distance. [source: Parish of Wolfurt, Catalogus II - 1781]

On Nov-05th 1810 their son Johann Georg Gasser married Agatha Fink, born on May-15th 1781 in Langen, which is a village in approx. 10 km distance. They moved into the house Wolfurt No. 17, which is the house, in which the fiancé was born 26 years earlier. (The Bavarians, who had taken over our country in 1806 had renumbered the houses) [source Parish of Wolfurt, Book of Marriages]

Five months later, on Mar-2nd 1811, this first spouse of Johann Georg Gasser died in her husbands house “auf dem Buehel”. Cause of her death was “Faulfieber”, which in most cases can be translated as typhus. [source Parish of Wolfurt, Book of Deaths]

Half a year later, on Oct-28th 1811 Gasser married his second spouse Magdalena Flatz. He was described as a “Schlosser”, a locksmith, smith or metallworker and still lived in the house “Buehel No. 17”. Magdalena was the daugther of Xaver Flatz and Anna Koeb and grew up in the house No. 164 in the most southern part of Wolfurt, whichs name is Rickenbach. She was born on Feb-21st 1789. Attesting wittnesses were Xaver Flatz, the father of the bride and Kaspar Gasser, a brother or uncle of the fiancé. [source Parish of Wolfurt, Book of Marriages]

Johann Georg Gasser and his second spouse lived for at least 27 years in their house “auf dem Buehel”, You can find children of them in the Book of Deaths, who died on Jan-25th 1815, Mar-09th 1816, Jun-09th 1816, Mar-31st 1818, May 27th 1831 and Apr-05th 1838.

In 1839 they built a new house in approx. 200 meters distance of the old one, which got the number “Oberfeld No. 40” (today Feldeggstraße 4) [source: Archive of the municipality of Wolfurt, Register of Houses 1885]

Johann Georg Gasser died 61 years old on Aug-21st 1845, in Wolfurt Oberfeld No. 40. (The year of death you posted is not correct!). Cause of his death was “Magenentzündung und Magenschluss” – you can translate it as gastroenteritis and closed gastrointestinal passage. Over his whole live he must have worked as a locksmith, because he was still titled “Schlosser”. In his entry in the book of deaths the parish mentioned the names of his parents correctly: Johann Michael Gasser and Maria Agatha Boehler. [source Parish of Wolfurt, Book of deaths]

Maria Magdalena Flatz, the widow after Johann Georg Gasser, died at the age of 70 on Mar-18th 1859, in house they have built 20 years earlier. Cause of her death was a “Blutsturz” – translated probably a hemoptysis. Her father was Franz Xaver Flatz, her mother was Anna Koeb. [source Parish of Wolfurt, Book of Deaths]

I hope, this brings more light into the life-history of the questioned Johann Georg Gasser.

Best regards from Wolfurt, Austria
