The community is Schandorf part of the district of Oberwart in Burgenland, Austria. It is next to Schachendorf and Durnbach and families intermingled over time. You may find your relatives in these surrounding communites. Prior to World War I, it was part of a region called Vas, Hungary.

Languages spoken in this area were German, Croatian, Magyar and Latin. Many relatives in Burgenland were bilingual.

I am looking for relatives of my grandmother Maria Margaret Stefanits Vokits who emigrated in 1914. If you have any ancesters with the suranme Stefanits, Vukits, Bauer, Besenhauffer, Horvath, Puskarits, Petti or Hodits; let me know.

Thanks....
