My ancestors were peasants who lived in what is now Poland and Slovakia, although at the time it was part of Austria-Hungary. I was curious about military conscription in Austria-Hungary. Would all or some of my ancestors have been obligated to serve in the Austro-Hungarian military? If so, for how long? At what age did they start serving? I know that my great-grandmother's brother was in the Austro-Hungarian army during WWI but aside from that I know little about the military service of any of my relatives.
