US Passport Application

Meletius P. Dutkewich, a naturalized citizen of the US, applies to the US Embassy in London for a passport for himself; born at Warsaw, Poland; 18 July 1871; emigrated to the US via Halifax in the spring of 1889; resided for six years in Chicago; naturalized in the Cook County Circuit Court on 19 December 1895; currently holds a passport issued in Melbourne in 1902; permanent residence in New York; photographer; since leaving the US has been living in London, British East Africa; needs passport to travel to Russia (representing Messrs. Underwood and Underwood of New York). Dated 17 May 1909.

The reference from 1860 in Vienna cannot be him given his birth date.

The 1902 passport application indicates that he has been travelling around the world as an artist for Messrs. B.W. Kilburn & Co., New York.

His first passport was issued in 1895; indicates he is single. If this is your great-grandfather, it would seem he was never married.

He must have served in WWI, as he is given a military internment in Pinelawn Cemetery, Long Island, New York; died 9 December 1939.
