Can anyone advise me where to write for Catholic Church records prior to 1715 in Imst, Tirol? I aqm researching the Schatz family who left Imst in 1715 for Kroeppen, Germany. I've been told that there is a book available on the family from Imst, but I can't find anyone who can tell me where to look either for the book or for information about Imst church records. Thanks for any advice.

Catholic Church records are all microfilmed and can be seen in at:

Tiroler Landesarchiv (State Archive of Tyrol)
Michael-Gaismair-Str 1
A-6020 Innsbruck

Tel: 0512-508-3502 oder 508-3503
Fax: 0512-508-3505
landesarchiv@tirol.gv.at

I could not find a book on this family in the bibliography of Granichstaetten-Czerva from 1939, so no book was publishe prior 1939!

But there exists a:

SchlernSchr. 57

Studien zur Sprach- und Kulturgeschichte : Festschrift zu Ehren von Josef Schatz. - Innsbruck : Wagner, 1948. - 100 S.
(Schlern-Schriften ; 57) (= SchlernSchr.)

Since I last wrote concerning the Schatz research, I wrote to the Catholic parish of Imst, but was told that I needed an exact birth date, not a range, for them to look. So, I hired a professional who checked at the Innsbrueck Archives and said he could find no Schatz for the 1790 - 1820 time frame. He suggested that we look in some 9 other Catholic Parish registers. This, of course, is rather expensive. I checked the Austrian phone book and found that there are currently 346 entries for Schatz in Tirol with 39 of those in Imst. There are also quite a few in Innsbrueck. Otherwise, the Schatz name seems sprinkled in about 15 other villages. I will check to see the location of each of these within Tirol. The LDS has no Catholic records to check myself. How can I narrow the search?

Imst is as well a town as a district. If your ancesters mentioned Imst in the states, they may have used the name of the main town in the district maybe. So you could check Parishes in Imst district (close to Imst)

Use the link:

http://www.dioezese-innsbruck.at/gehoert_zu.asp?lfdnr=21

By clicking on a place you will get adres information of all parishes in the decanat of Imst.
