Thanks for your note. The whole situation of what happened in post-war Europe (and Japan) is terribly sad, isn't it? I grew up with two boys from Germany and Latvia who had been DPs after the war and whose stories were very sad and chilling. Hopefully, there will come a time when war and situations like theirs will be a distant memory.
As for where my father's mistress could have lived, there is no doubt she was Czech but from what we know about history, could have been a Sudeten and sent to Germany. Your point about my father not wanting to live in a Russian country is an excellent one. I believe the unit's HQ was Nuremburg, so that leaves Bavaria/SE Germany. If I don't hear anything from Prague or Pilsen, I will concentrate on that area.
