They came from 1922's Czechoslovakia, but they were not from the area of today's Czech Republic. The arrival record says Zusanna identified herself and her children as Slovak. She even gives her husband's name in its Magyar/Hungarian form, Janos. It also mentions the locations "Jasa," "Ilassa" (probably the same place), and "Podzamidz." I have not been able immeidately to identify those placea.
The surname spelling Kockis does not occur in Slovakia. Perhaps it was Kocsis, the Magyar spelling for what today would be Koc'is, pronounced "KOH-chees," which means coachman.
