Thanks so much for the information.
With the help of one other person, we figured that the father and his father/mother were from Ober-Schonbach, or Horni Luby in Czech.
Still can not tell what the father's occupation was. The handwriting is hard to read.

I found a birth record for a Joseph Mayer in Horni Luby. And it looks like his father was Andreas Mayer (still very hard to read that font). His mother Mir---- Fritsch. The record is here:

This record is quite clear and easy to read but is written in that old font that is hard to decipher. There is also a note on this record that shows something happened on 13 Nov 1873 (marriage maybe)??? But I haven't been able to find a marriage record for them near Luby or Chodov.
