Yes, according to the 1910, 20 and 30 Census he and his wife could read and write (Was literate). He spelled it Solle and when his wife took a trip to Nehovid in 1907, on arrival back in the states she also spelled it Solle.
Im pretty sure it is Karel, it is definitely spelled in 6 letters, its just hard to tell from the handwriting on the document if its an a or an e.
