Yes, I've ordered it already to see the 1600 - 1766 listings, but there will always be a hole in my research because of those missing years. bummer.

Since I posted that question I worked with the Church archives in Bielfeld and got all the info they had. But the records of the Church of the Evangelical parish of Heepen in the years 1766-1779 were destroyed in a fire in the parsonage of Heepen. No documents remain from that period.

I did learn that before 1906-1910, Seiker residents buried their dead in the Heepen church cemetery. Then the village of Seiker opened their own cemetery. But no grave sites exist because in Germany graves are destroyed after 30 years - Manfred Köllner, Bielfeld genealogist.

According to the german wikipedia page Sieker had 1.910 habitants in 1885 & 7.320 in 1910. I would presume it was a village . Not a town.
The state of prussia established a documentation of birth , marriage and death records in 1875. Prior to this certificates had been released by the churches where the event happened.
Probably it´s best to contact the church archive in Bielefeld.
http://www.archive.nrw.de/kirchenarchive/evang_kirchenarchiv...

They store, conserve and restore churchbooks of this area between 1600 - 1981.

Hello,
I am in Detmold now and have just met Friedhelm Ratmeier, what an amazing man... He is going to send me his contact information, he is apparently using the internet now and has an email address. If nothing else you could send snail mail to his restaurant, I have the address if you don't.

I am a Drake but there is evidence that we are connected to the Ratmeier name, I wonder if either of you see a link to Drake's in the histories you each have, if so I would greatly appreciate a scan and the relevant information. It appears from my research here that my Drakes may be from Butze which, if you know the area, is just a one block street next to Ratsiek.

Please reply here or to gchdrake@drakehistory.com and thank you both very much,
Gordon Drake

Hello,

I am Looking for some Klass Descendents as well from Lippe, Germany. My great great grandfather William Klass who resided in Oconto, Wisconsin, was born in 1834 in Lippe-Detmold (aprox). The furthest census record I have found is 1870 when he was 36, married with two children. Wife, was Anna Elixabeth Klass (Henrich). In the sensus record, there is a Simon Klass who is listed which may be a younger brother. Their immigration travel appeared to be in 1851 or 1853.

If you have any knowledge of them please contact me.

Thanks,

Ben

Good morning from Kent in England. I am trying to find out where and when my G-G-Grandfather, Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm Ernst Schleicher, died. I know his wife, Henriette Auguste (nee Starke), applied to Detmold in 1879 to open a maternity home. In that application, she said that her husband had died 11 years earlier - 1867 or 1868. She died in a convent for nuns in Lemgo on 11 December 1898...but where is he buried and when did he die? Can anyone help?? Robin

You may write an email to them am ask for the records you are looking for. With exact names and dates it does not take longer than a quarter of an hour and thus would not cost much.
Furthermore I suggest you put a query on the Northrhine Westphalia board and ask if somebody is so kind as to provide the records while researching there on his own behalf.
And if nothing works feel free to send a private message.

Gaby (Germany, Nordrhein-Westfalen)

Towns in Germany include Lüdge, Sabbenhausen, Lüdenberge, Radsieke, Ratsiek, Elbringen, Hörter, Wörderfeld, Detmold, Neerfen, Falkenhagen

Johannes Arndt Ratmeyer 1760 - 1832 was the most wealthy descendant in the area who's fortune was squandered away by his sons.

Currently, a Friedhelm and Kornelia Ratmeyer operate a pub called Braugasse in Detmold. If anyone has any contact information for them, I'd appreciate it. Friedhelm is getting up there in age and has been a source of information on the German side to some relatives.

Lippe Detmold, Germany Geographical DNA Project

The scope and purpose of this Geographical DNA Project is to offer help to those reseachers who can either trace their ancestral roots to, or currently live in what was the former Principality of Lippe. Although there is a German DNA Project, the Lippe Detmold Project is designed to offer a more confined geographical area of research. Currently Lippe consist of roughly 481 square miles, this is walking distance. I originally started a DNA SURNAME PROJECT, which I still administer. Due to the German practice of changing surnames with the transfer of real-estate, either by purchase or inheritance through a female spouse, this project made sense to me. Historically Lippe has existed as a country since 1123 and was once an independent state within the Holy Roman Empire, later, it was incorporated into Prussia. Lippe was elevated to the satus of Principality from 1789 to 1949, it is now part of the state North Rhein-Westphalia. In the 19th Century 20,000 people from Lippe emigrated to the the Americas, mostly to the United States and Canada. Those of you, who want to join, please contact; Al Tieman at altieman@gmail.com

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/LippeDetmoldDE/
