Tschan Family

Classification: Query
Surnames: Tschan, Schan, Gross, Weber
I am trying to find information on the Tschan family who immigrated to the United States most likely before 1853 but after 1850. The Tschans I am looking for are Joseph and his wife Maria Eva nee Gross. I believe that Joseph may have had another wife before Maria named Margaretha. He also supposedly had three sons with her, however it does not appear that these sons came to America with him. The only child that I know came with Joseph was his son Anton with wife Maria. I believe that Joseph was from Baden, Germany born 1808. He died in New Albany, Indiana, USA in 1882. At some point Joseph also changed the spelling of his last name from Tschan to Schan.

I also believe that Joseph's parents may have been Benedikt Tschan and Maria Eva Weber(both born in Baden as well).

Also someone told me that Tschan may have originated in Russia is this true?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Loretta
