I am looking for information on my Great, Great Grandfather George Martin Wimmer. His tombstone shows birth year of 1828. I know he immigrated to the US before December 1853 (birth of son). His first son, also George, was born in NY, but all subsequent children were born in Chicago. The only stories handed down were that the family is from Bavaria.

Spelling has changed from census to census.
1850 - cannot find any census links
1860 - George Wemmeres from Holstein (I believe this a mistake from lazy census taker)
1870 - George Weimmer from Bavaria
1880 - George Wimmer from Germany
1887 - Died 20 Oct in Chicago

Other information:
His occupation was a builder/carpenter. His wife was Maria Ann ?, born 1830, France.
