From 1815 to 1867 a part of the area around Bad Orb in present-day Hessen was Bavarian. Oberndorf, Burgjoss, Pfaffenhausen, and a few other communities were located in the Untermainkreis, later Unterfranken (Department of Lower Franconia). Since 1867 they've been Hessian. This is in the area known as Spessart, which straddles the Bavarian/Hessen border northeast of Aschaffenburg.
