TURKES & ADDLESBACH of SCHROLLBAC & TRIER, BAVARIA, GERMANY

Trying to locate John TURKES of SCHROLLBAC and Anna ADDLESBACH of TRIER Bavaria.

John TURKES was born in Schrollbac, Bavaria, Germany December 27, 1852. He married Anna ADDLESBACH. Anna was born in Trier, Bavaria, Germany September 24, 1860. John asked his father for his inheritance in order to emigrate to America. His father gave him the money. John and Anna booked second class passage and emigrated to the United States arriving in the Pittsburgh area in the late 1880's with enough farming implements, tools and money to get a good start in their new land.

John and Anna had 3 children: two girls and one boy. One of the daughters was Barbara Agatha TURKES, born February 14, 1887 in Baldwin, Pennsylvania The name of the other daughter is unknown. The son was Charles Frank "Charlie" TURKES, born January 6, 1889 in West Mifflin near of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Barbara Agatha TURKES married a Fred W. PAWELL born February 13, 1876 in Hanover, Germany.. Barbara TURKES PAWELL and her husband Fred had 3 children: Fred PAWELL, Jr.; Alfreida PAWELL, Virginia PAWELL born August 30, 1918. They lived on Mount Washington in Pittsburgh near today's Lamont Restaurant.

Virginia married Frederick J. McCOOL. Frederick was born in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania on September 23, 1915, the son of Chester McCOOL and Myrtle SELIG. Virginia and Frederick had 8 children: Thomas McCOOL, born January 11, 1945; Paul McCOOL, born June 26, 1946; Barbara McCOOL, born in Columbus, Ohio January 19, 1948; Mary McCOOL, born in Columbus, Ohio April 14, 1949; Patricia McCOOL, born in Columbus, Ohio December 7, 1950; Michael McCOOL, born May 19, 1952.; Joseph McCOOL, born June 29, 1955; and, Robert McCOOL born in Columbus, Ohio July 31, 1960. Frederick died December 6, 1978 in Peachtree City, Georgia. Virginia died April 3, 1995 in Union City, Georgia.

Charles Frank "Charlie" TURKES married Eleanor Margaret "Nora" ABEL who was born April 24, 1890 the daughter of Joseph ABEL and Saloma NEW. Eleanor's parents are believed to have come from Germany and the family lived on a farm on Bull Run near where Bettis is now located. The farm had a coal mine at the back of the property. Eleanor had two sisters; Gertrude ABEL; and, Colletta ABEL. The ABEL family also had a number of sons. The sons inherited the farm and mine.

Charlie and Nora TURKES had one child, Walter Robert TURKES born May 27, 1912 in Homestead and died December 12, 1993 in Sanford, Seminole County, FL.. Charlie died June 7, 1974 in the Homestead area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Nora died March 4, 1973 in Homestead.

Walt TURKES married Gertrude Elizabeth "Betty" ROGERS June 6, 1938 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Gertrude ROGERS was born June 21, 1912 in McKeesport, the daughter of Charles Robert ROGERS, Sr. and Gertrude VAN KIRK. Gertrude Elizabeth ROGERS died October 12, 1992 in Sanford, FL. Walt TURKES and Betty ROGERS had twin daughters Lois Jean TURKES and Doris Jane TURKES. Walter TURKES was on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh, and for a while was the Dean of Engineering. Walter and Betts lived their adult lives in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, although, late in life, they wintered over in duBarry, FL near Daytona Beach.
