It is a long time since you posted this but maybe you are still searching - so here goes. Breining is not a common name in Germany but there are 171 entries for the name in dastelefonbuch.de so it is not unknown. To spell it Brining would be a logical step in an English speaking country because most people would look at it and pronounce it "Breening". Brining would be the exact German pronounciation of Breining - i.e. "ei" is poronounced "i". It could be English but it sounds more German to me. Hope this is of some help.
