The house is in the Mt. Vernon area of Baltimore (229 W. Read St.). Before the first world war the ir was called Richmond Street. The house was built around 1830.
I don't read German, so I have no idea what the German-American papers say. The other newspapers that I found are business oriented (one had an ad to advertise a new machine that made "icy water).
One thing that stood out during the tear-down phase of the renovations was that there were hundreds and hundreds of umbrella wires in the walls. They were everywhere. Baltimore was a big umbrella manufacturing city, so I thought maybe the previous owners were in the umbrella trade.
