Search for Henry C. Ritterhoff's pension under military records and you will find
a Civil War Pension index. Click on that and in the description of the record at the
bottom it will say "learn more" under description - simply click there and read - it
will provide the next steps of how to.
There is no difference in German between Lenz and Lentz - sometimes a "t" was added
to indicate a hard z if you will. However, how it was spelled in earlier times simply
depended on the Pastor or person recording the name. It was only in later years and
more recent times that people were particular about how their name was spelled - before
most people did not know how to spell - it was only the learned people in the village (clergy,
government officials, etc.).
Hope that helps.
