Now indexed from 1850 to 1914 on Ancestry.com the "Hamburg Passenger Lists 1850-1934" database.http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=1068
Previously only 1877 to 1914 were indexed.
You do not have to be a "World Explorer" member, just a regular member, to use the index and see the actual Hamburg Passenger Lists Manifests.
So if you have not already located your ancestor from old Mecklenburg, this new index can lead to new discovery by showing the last residence.
From the town name, you can order the parish records from familysearch.org on film, and likely find your ancestors in the actual church book registers that show the births, baptisms, and deaths.
Parishes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz and associated towns.http://www.progenealogists.com/germany/mecklenburg/meckpar.h...
Note: There are 2 ship lists for your Mecklenburg ancestors. The departure lists (Hamburg Manifests) and the arrival lists (New York or other ports). The Hamburg Lists are the only ones that show the town of the last residence, except for only a few of the arrivals. 90 percent of the time Mecklenburgers took a Hamburg Ship to the U.S., Canada, or Australia.
