Grandfather Karl changed the family surname from Luchterhand in the teens after Germany entered WWI. Family is from Hamburg. Several cousins are still in the publishing business in Germany. They specialized in publishing Soviet emigres in the 70's and 80's. Family also built tug boats in Hamburg during the war. We have clippings of the British bombing these shipyards referencing them as the Luchterhand shipping yards. My father's name was Frederick William. His family settled in Remington, Indiana. There is also a wing of Luchterhands in Wisconsin - one of them a professor at University of Wisconsin. I am told that thry have held family reunions. Grandfather Karl married a woman with the surname of Geib from outside of Frankfurt.
I am an advisor to the National Bank of the Government of Kazakhstan residing in Almaty. Any light you can shed on our family history would be of interest.
When in Germany, I use the "H". It is easier.
