My great-grandmother may have given birth to a baby girl out of wedlock after she was widowed and before she emigrated to the US with her legitimate son. I found a birth record on the LDS website for a Dora Luise Schierbaum, born 06 July 1895 to Frida Elisabeth Charlotte Schierbaum (her maiden name)in Hannover, Hannover, Prussia. My great grandmother sailed to New York four months later with her four year old son, August Stark (her son by Alexander Stark). My grandmother had been staying with her older sister Dora in Bremen before she left Germany. I do not know if family kept the baby or if she was put up for adoption.
Does anyone have any idea of where I could begin searching for Dora Luise? Was there a census done anytime after 1895 that is available to the public?
