Hallo Elmar,

Gaby

Hi,
I suspect, you are looking for the wrong town. Te name of the town is not Redrichen but Rederchingen (German) in our days Rederching near Sarreguemines (Saargemünd) .
Jean-Henri NEU OR NEY married Odile SPIELDENNER on 14. September 1835 at Petit Rederching.
You may find the family at http://gw5.geneanet.org/renec68?lang=de;p=odile;n=spieldenne... .
Jean-Henri NEU possibly is not born at Petit Rederching. The surname Ney/Neu is very common in the nearby Saarland region

regards
Willi W.

They have also filmed Catholic church registers from 1581 to 1898. Both should be able to shed light on your ancestors.

I realize your post was made nearly 14 years ago, but just in case you're still around, I will tell you what I know and perhaps you can help me.

I am descended from John Marshall Ney (1836-1907), who started the J.M. Ney Company in Hartford Connecticut. I found the following entry in a book about the J.M. Ney Company:

“At his birth in Redrichen, Alsace-Lorraine, near the German border, in July, 1836, his French parents christened their eldest child “Michel Neu.” But, as was frequently done in those days, the Neys anglicized their names upon migrating here in 1847, and the 11-year-old boy was called John Marshall Ney. His mother, Odile Spildnner, became Odelia; and his father, Jean Henry Ney, simply dropped the ‘Jean.’”

I am very curious about the fact that you are also looking for the same two surnames together: Spildenner and Ney, although the individuals seem to be different.

Harroun
(This index covered Iowa)

Ancestry also had Passenger Index listing for Martin Tschanhenz in New York in 1854.

This looks like it might be his ship passenger record:
Martin Tschauheinz (that's the spelling), age 34 (c.1820)
arrived 8 Jul 1854 in New York aboard the "Stormaway" out of Havre.
http://castlegarden.org/quick_search_detail.php?p_id=8122725

A quick look at the Stormaway's lists for 1854 showed no other passengers with a name even phonetically like Tschauheinz.

Someone on the Bavaria board said the surnames don't come from that area and seem to have come from Merzig, Saarland. This is the post I originally made below, help would still be appreciated:

I keep hitting a dead end here.

Looking for ancestors of Katherine Mary Tschanhenz (May 1871 - Nov 1952, born and died in Iowa). Her father is a Martin J. Tschanhenz born Nov 11th, 1819 in what I believe was the Kingdom of Bavaria at the time; he immigrated to Iowa and died there in 1901.

His wife was Katherina Blitsch apparently from Rhine Plantz born Dec 12, 1833. She also immigrated and died in Iowa. Her parents were Katherine Schorsow (there's some debate on this) born 1800 in ''Prussia'' or Germany and died in the same area. Her father was Nicholas L. Blitsch born in Prussia 1808 and I believe he may have immigrated as well when his wife died.

The Tschanhenz is quite hard, but I'm not getting anywhere with the Blitsch either. The Tschanhenz seemed to get their name butchered in America, one obit called it Jachanhenz but that is literally the only place I've seen it spelled that way. At times the couple would shorten it to Henz usually for space reasons (like their headstone).

Both Katherine Tschanhenz and Katherine Schorsow changed the spelling of their first names several times. At times they'd be Cath, Kath, Katie, Cathy, Katherine, Catherine, Katherina and Catherina.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hallo Herr Reinfried Kollmann. Es tut mir leid, aber ich kann nur ein klein bischen Deutsch schreiben oder sprechen. Thank you for your response to my message from 13 years ago. I've looked at your data in Geneanet. The Angel family you have in your ancestry is from the same general area (Theley, Güdesweiler) as my Angel ancestors (Urweiler) -- the challenge is to determine how they are connected. Same for the Thiel family -- my Margaretha Thiel was from Theley, but I know nothing about her ancestry, so I don't know how (or whether) she might be connected to your Thiel ancestors. The third name we both have from that area is Scherer, although that is a much more common name and it is less likely all Scherers, even from the same area, share a common ancestry. You can see my Saarland ancestry at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&d...
Any help you might be able to provide in pushing any these lines back would be greatly appreciated.

Robert Behra

Judy, I never met your parents, only your grandparents, Ben and Bessie, your aunt Eleanor, and uncles Pat and George. I also didn't know your mother's name was Catherine, I only heard it as Eileen (if this is the same person). Thanks. Janet

Wouldn't John Julius Ulrich Zentner and Ursula Schindler (1844-1884), the parents of Rachel Zentner, be the grandparents of Elizabeth Ann Sanford (Bessie)? Because they are my great-great grandparents, through my grandfather, James Sanford, brother to Bessie.

I met several cousins on that visit. The one who later visited me on Long Island, NY was Horst Rothaar. His mother was my father's sister. He also had a brother Carl-Heinz. Horst was a technician at the TV station in Saarbrucken and was here for the Olympicsin Lake Placid, NY.
