I am totally confused about the location of SAXONY. I understand how one would refer to the area today but what about in 1870-1880? How is this in reference to the term Kingdom of Hannover? In 1880 was Laer bei Münster in Saxony? Hannover? How about Rottenberg?
Would this area terminalogy cover "Kreis Verden,Hannover?
I have found these terms used in papers from my German Grandparents who went to the USA before 1900. (They met in Brooklyn)
Before I can do any serious searching I need to know what area I an talking about. My grandmother told me that they both came from "Hannover" Their marriage license says she was from "Rottenberg" and he was from "Kreis Verden, Hannover." I find him and his parents in the 1880 census with SAXONY listed. I find his parents listed in the vital statistics for Laer bei Münster. (and in the 1880 census) Can someone connect this in my brain?
Thank you.
