Classification: Query
Surnames: Johannsen
If my memory serves me right, it said that Johann Peter was 40 in 1845, that would make his birth date about 1805, My Catharina was born in 1809, I was wondering if you had any information on the Johannsen family further back than Johann Peter or if you knew where he was born. I thought that Arthalina seemed like a girl's name, however I have never encountered it in any of my research. I was curious if once your family immigrated to New Zealand if they lived in a German community or intermarried with the native new Zealanders, maybe that could account for the lack of mental illness in subsequent generations if indeed it was there to start with. I also have a couple other Johannsen families that may or may not be related to Catharina somewhere back in Germany that are in my tree. That is an interesting mystery of why they were in the poorhouse and why they left their children behind. Did they take any children with them, or just have more after they immigrated to New Zealand?
