My wife's family immigrated from Fohr to the United States and it has been a challenge to find family records prior to their arrival in 1938.

We are very interested in correspondng with anyone regarding the Gliesmann family of Wyk auf Fohr. My wife's father was Herbert Siegfried Gliesmann, born in Wyk in 1912. Herbert's father was Theodore Heinrich Gliesmann, born of Wyk in 1890, who married Paula Broders. We believe Theodore and Paula are buried on Fohr.

Hi cousin! Duke Magnus was buried in the Ratzeburg castle. He has his coat of arms hanging in a church I'm assuming in Ratzeburg. My aunt visited there and found it there. I'd have to have her look it up for sure. I remember her talking about it. She has looked up genealogy stuff since the beginning of time!

Hello, I am the grand daughter of Christine Alvina Johansen which she was born March 23, 1900 she married Martin Murphy and had a son Martin Murphy and my mother was Meta Marie Murphy born July 13, 1937. Your thread mentions her name as Cecelia Christine Johansen, I beleive this maybe my granmother as the names mentioned with her were names of great aunt and uncles that I have heard of or meant. Mostly from the Modesto California area. Peter Johansen High School in Modesto Ca was named after her brother. Does any of this sound familiar?

I am looking for the family of ancestor Claus Johann Schulz. The family lived in what is the Amt of Büsum-Wesselburen in Dithmarschen, Schleswig-Holstein.

Claus Johann Schulz was born about 1847, probably in Reinsbüttel. He married Maria Dorothea Wieda in Büsum. The marriage date might have been 8 September 1867.

Claus Johann Schulz was a son of Johann Jochim Schulz. Claus’ mother may have been Wielke Kohn.

I believe Johann Jochim Schulz was born in Reinsbüttel on 21 August 1817 and died there 15 March 1852. His parents were Johann Schulz and Catharina Kruse.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks
Hello. Your posting struck a chord with me because my 2nd great grandfather was a man from Hamburg, Germany who jumped ship in Adelaide or so family stories told. My research revealed he was reported as a ship's deserter in Sydney in 1855 and the ship's listing reveals him as the Danish "kook". Since he never changed his name, it is probable that he opted for a one way voyage only but ships' captains always listed these seaman so they could claim any unpaid wages (often the amount of the reward for the deserter)!

I have found an entry for "Rathje H", who is listed as one of the Chief Fireman on HOHENSTAUFEN of Bremen that arrived in Sydney in 1889

Additionally, I suggest that you look through the entries for emigrants found at

These may assist you with some leads to pursue or consider contacting Web site owner Klaus Struve, who may be able to provide additional assistance.

Good luck,
-Frances Bluhdorn-
Sydney, Australia
He married my Gt Grandmother in NZ in 1875 then he was listed as being a Widower. Family stories say he was a Danish merchant seaman who jumped ship in New Zealand and went gold mining.Any info would be appreciated.

Could someone Transcribe or Translate this marriage record from Segeberg in 1785? It is entry 15, dated 17 Aug. between a Behrens from Wismar and an Agneta Kindberg from Ostergotland in Sweden. On line 6, does it call out a locality in Ostergotland?

Thank You, David Larson

Hi,
I know, I'm at a brick wall. My only Rosencrantz family member I have names and dates for is my 2nd great grandmother, Ellen Rosencrantz b. 7 Feb 1828 in Nova Scotia, Canada and died 21 Aug 1910 in Salem, Massachusetts. I do have a paper from another relative (my grandfather's sister) and she states that Ellen was born in Germany. I've got other documents (a census) that states she was born in NS Canada. I'm not counting on either to be true unless I find out for sure. I do have names for her parents, but I found the info on someone elses tree, and no documents to prove it. I only have the info on my tree just incase it's proven to be so, It can always be changed. The location of Germany I stated, was I looked up origins of the Rosencrantz name, and it came up with this section of Germany. So I figured maybe someone on the post may have ancestors that imigrated from this section and settled in Nova Scotia (Annapolis county I think). Thankyou for the info about Denmark. I'll check that too.
Hi Vanessa,

There really isn't enough information in your post for anyone to be able to help much. If you could provide a name or two and a time frame - approximate birth year or even an immigration year -it might enable someone to help. (And when searching in Schleswig/Holstein, don't forget to check the records for the southern part of Denmark. This area was under Danish rule, then in 1864 came under Prussian rule and in 1871 became part of the German Empire and then back to Denmark again in 1920. Many immigrants from that area would have listed Germany as their birthplace on records in the US or Canada)

J. Murphy

Hello Evelyn:

Thank you so much for responding. It seems my ancestors have disappeared!! I have a copy of Johann's birth record that states he was born 30 March 1857 in Klein Heuwisch. This record indicates he was born as Klinker. However, Johann's death certificate states he died on 23 November 1945 in Karolinenkoog and his name was Klenke. So I'm not sure which is the correct surname.

I have no birth or death record for his wife, Anna Margaretha Moller (Klenke/Klinker). We believe she was born 27 November 1853 in Weissenmoor and died 12 September 1923 in Karolinenkoog.

Could you also advise me as to where I can find records on the ancestors of both Johann and Anna? I have the names and places of birth and death, but no dates. It appears most of the ancestors were from the Heide area -- such as Blankenmoor, Neuenkirchen, Wesseln, Westerhorn, etc. What I have been able to find only dates back to the late 1700's and I'm hoping earlier records exist. All the information has been found on worldvitalrecords.com. Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you so much for responding.

Karen
