I have the names of two locations concerning my Hellmann family ancestors. Theodore Hellmann, by his own personal statement, was born in Saxe-Coburg. His death certificate provides a birth date of 19 Dec 1828 and lists his parents as George Hellmann and Mary Dietz.
Ship passenger information dated 8 Aug 1856 upon his arrival at Baltimore, USA, indicates that he was a farmer from "Friderichrood Sachs Gotha". He immigrated to the USA with his wife Margareth and son August.
The family settled in Schuylkill County, PA, USA, where Theodore Hellmann died on 5 Feb 1906.
Would I be correct in assuming that the 1856 reference to "Friderichrood Sachs Gotha" refers to the present day town of Friedrichroda, Gotha, Thuringia?
Also I am interested in learning what would have been Saxe-Coburg in 1828, his birth place. Is this the same area as is Friedrichroda today?
