Does anyone know this man? Charles Fredrick Kirchhof was born in 1809 in Weimar, Thuringen, Germany, which was considered the toy center of Germany.
Entered college to become a surgeon, but was unnerved by the sight of blood, so switched over to engineering.
After graduation he moved to Chemintz, Germany, where he went into business building weaving looms and special machinery.
A member of the revolutionists during the Rebellion of 1848, he made speeches against the German government and was subsequently arrested, sent to prison, and sentenced to die for treason. A sympathetic local Burgermeister helped him and several other prisoners to escape.
A political refugee, he immigrated to New York City, NY in 1850.
He was married to Eugenia Amalia Andestone Dietze before they came to the U.S.A.
Can anyone help?
