My grandfather and great-grandfather's name was also KRIZEK. The name is Czech and literally means "Kriz" = "Cross" + "-ek" = diminutive or "Little Cross" or "Crosslet". They came from Prague in Bohemia and Brno in Moravia. They have been a prominent family in the government and the arts. Jan Krizek was a prominent artist in Paris in the 1950's. Other members included Gustav Krizek, a prominent government official in Prague during the 1960's and 1970's, as well as an opera singer and advisor to Vaclav Havel.
