I'm attempting to find out more about my great-grandmother Dora Taschl's background. As far as I can tell, there was only one Taschl family in the Bloomfield section of Pittsburgh in the early 1900s, and their head was a man named Josef who claimed to be Moravian in origin. In the manifest from his first voyage, he gave his hometown as 'Veseli', which I assume refers to Veseli nad Moravou or Veseli nad Luznici, if either. His wife, Julia, was originally Viennese, and according to my mother Dora may have practiced Judaism prior to her marriage.
I'm having difficulty finding any information about him prior to his living in Pittsburgh, or indeed of there ever having been a Taschl family in Moravia. If anyone can point me in the proper direction--alternate spellings, possible databases to explore, etc--I'd really appreciate it. I've found websites specifically geared toward Czech-Jewish ancestry, but I'm hesitant to contact anyone until I have some solid evidence.
